The Mysteries of Yoga

I'm working on a series of yoga murder mystery books. I may not be the only one doing this. I think I have a unique perspective to bring, in that I may be one of the most analytically minded people you could meet. I was good in school and I like it; I aced standardized tests . I went to college and graduate school and more graduate school.

Then I started studying yoga seriously in 2007.  And was that ever an eye opening experience.  My standard issue middle class white American woman ways of thinking were not going to cut it any longer. I have a guru. My guru keeps me honest. And growing. Moving forward on a spiritual path.

I won't say my progress is proceeding at the speed of light, or even of sound. But I see tremendous differences in the way I am in the world after 10+ years of yoga. When I say yoga, I don't mean asana, although that is of course the way most of of gain access to the spiritual science of yoga.  I mean the whole kit and kaboodle: the eight limbs, the meditation, the path of self realization and most of all, the ethical precepts encompassed by yama and niyama.

Every day I work on Ahimsa, non harming. Every day I fail. And the next day I start again.

Watch this space as I explore what I find mysterious and powerful about the practice of yoga and test out some of my ideas on my main character, Gabby Santos, who finds more things than yoga to be mysterious.
